Tibetan Furniture

This group of Tibetan cabinets, small tables and trunks are 60-150 years old and come from monasteries and homes throughout Tibet, Gansu and Mongolia.
Historically, Tibet has been a thinly populated country of few resources. As such, genuine furniture items are rare and in high demand. The majority of pieces were made as articles of patronage for the local monasteries.
We endeavor to preserve the pieces in their original, unrefinished condition in order to preserve their historic and investment qualities. Some will have minor remnants of ghee and smoke residue as well as other imperfections. Ghee (a clarified yak-butter mixture) is used to ‘clean’ the cabinets on Buddhist holidays and other special occasions.
The antique pieces are for those who appreciate the cultural significance and beauty of Tibetan Buddhism and the legacy embodied in this furniture.
